The Missing Bone (Baculum)

The baculum, or penile bone, is curiously found in many placental mammals and is present in the penises of our close primate relatives including the apes (the chimpanzee, gorilla, bonobo and orangutan). It is even speculated that early hominids such as Homo Erectus still possessed a baculum. Why Homo Sapiens (modern humans) remain the only primate species without a baculum among all old world monkeys and apes remains a mystery.
