Still Life

Still Life (2016) was created during my one-month artists residency at the Institute Seni Budaya Indonesia (ISBI) and Institute of Technology (ITB) with the Jakarta Contemporary Ceramics Biennale. Inspired by the traditional arrangments for still life paintings, particularly during the Dutch Golden age of still life (1600-1800s). As I study the paitning techniques of the Old Masters in my studio in Vietnam, I often images the paintings as sculptural projects. For this exhibition, I was able to first exhibit this formally, where the arrangment leaves the two dimensional and framed constraints but still contains much of the same ideas.
