Our Lady of La Vang

Our Lady of La Vang  (Đức Mẹ La Vang), comes from Vietnamese Catholic lore during the colonial era where persecuted Christian villagers flee into the forest and become ill. They tell of a Marian apparition who cures them with knowledge of a special plant. This work also was visually inspired by the paper cut outs of Matisse and is placed next to modernist paintings featuring the mother/child motif.

Included in the exhibition, Departures.
