La Vietnamienne

This work was to be a response/homage to Jean Luc Godard's film, La Chinioise (1967). The film was very sympathetic to the global communist movements in the late sixties. Now in the early millenium, I wanted to revisit that attitude by working from Ho Chi Minh City and replacing some of the images in the orignal film with objects that replaced China with Vietnam, both states now full engaged in a transition to a market globalized economy. I wanted our art collective, Mogas Station, to be the principle actors and artists in the film - for example, the artworks of member Sandrine Llouquest were cut and pasted into the collage mockup and the Esso Tiger was replaced by the ubiquitious Tiger Beer mascot.
