The animal trap has been one of our defining human achievements, representing the ability to plan forward and while understanding the motivations of our prey.  While we have been adept at seeing the world through the eyes of the animal, we have not been so forward-thinking through our own eyes.

Here we have the traditional rat trap as designed in Vietnam now scaled to human dimensions at two meters. The cheese has been replaced by a 24k gold cube. 

The trap has a two-fold operation. Functionally, the spring can be torqued to act as an actual trap maiming a thief and, more importantly, it operates as a comment on the human condition itself as a trap - the symbolic value put on arbitrary elements such as gold has led to social, economic and environmental conflict. To be honest, the iron trap itself here is unnecessary, the gold alone is the trap.
