Heaven's Roof

Heaven's Roof (2021) continues the artist's experimentation with edible bánh tráng (Vietnamese spring roll wrapper) as a sculptural material, this time pushing it to the artist’s largest form to date. Molded on roof tiles from the entrance of his home and suspended on a wood frame and lit from within. The work continues the artists use of non-traditional and ephemeral material. The title also provides a counterbalance to The Gates of Hell (Cổng Địa Ngục) produced in 2017.

It is one of four new sculptures made specfifically for the exhibition, Within/Between/Beneath/Upon at the Factory Contemporary Art Center in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring three artists (Phan Thao Nguyen, Le Hien Minh and Richard Streitmatter-Tran) curated by Bill Nguyen and Van Do running March 13 - June 6, 2021.
